Online Student Life Program Assistant

Starting in early June through the end of July, the Online Student Life Program Assistant role will support Stanford Pre-Collegiate Studies (SPCS) Student Life engagement for Stanford Pre-Collegiate Summer Institutes, Stanford University Mathematics Camp (SUMaC), and Stanford Middle School Scholars Program. Our online summer programs are designed to give students an immersive educational experience, emphasizing interactive education and deep engagement. Alongside their daily instruction, Student Life will offer students an opportunity to expand their interests through life skills workshops, guest speakers, discussion groups, and virtual cafes.

The Online Student Life Program Assistant position is an ideal opportunity for early professionals who enjoy working with pre-collegiate students (grades 7-11) in an online learning setting.

Duties:

  • A required Live Orientation will be held online during the week of June 10, 2024 (exact date & time TBD). Must regularly check-in via slack, attend weekly team meetings and email with your primary supervisor.
  • Administrative support
    • Upload materials and announcements to Canvas as needed.
    • Monitor team email.
    • Monitor Slack channel.
  • Host social engagement events, including weekly drop-in Virtual Cafes, College Panel and Talent Shows
    • Encourage students to participate in conversation, share talents, and create a positive social atmosphere.
    • Provide behavior management support, moderate chat and ensure the expectations of the student Code of Conduct is upheld. This includes, but is not limited to, disabling Zoom features if used inappropriately (e.g. chat tool, annotation tool).
    • Moderate student chat platform.
  • Facilitate weekly group discussions
    • Prepare prompts to be shared each week in order to guide students through discussions centering around the main college theme.
    • Other duties as assigned.
  • Help guest speakers and hosts with the following:
    • Provide behavior management support, moderate chat and ensure the expectations of the student Code of Conduct is upheld. This includes, but is not limited to, disabling Zoom features if used inappropriately (e.g. chat tool, annotation tool).
    • Manage Zoom waiting room and admit participants into each section.
    • Moderate questions for speakers.
    • Upload materials and announcements to Canvas as needed.
    • Other duties as assigned.
  • Provide support when needed for instructor-led office hours.

Time Commitment & Work Schedule:

3-4 hour shifts will be assigned between 8am-7pm PT Monday-Friday. Total hours are not to exceed 19 hours/week. The ideal candidate will be able to accommodate a variety of shifts during these hours.

Compensation & Other Important Details:

This position is non-exempt and part-time, temporary/seasonal. All work is completed remotely, but you must be located within the United States for the duration of the assignment. Compensation will be $22.19 per hour.

Recommended Qualifications:

  • Must be over 18+ years of age
  • Currently enrolled at an accredited college or university
  • Strong communication skills, ability to work independently and remotely
  • Experience with relevant technologies, i.e. video conferencing platforms such as Zoom
  • An academic background or major relevant to at least one topic area is preferred: Health and Sciences, Mathematics, Creative Writing, Humanities, or Business and Entrepreneurship
