Nurse

Position Overview

The Nurse supervises and oversees the health and safety of all participants while remaining current on any changing medical or public health guidance necessary to provide a safe and healthy environment. This role works directly with minors and requires a high level of responsibility, self-direction, communication, collaboration with residential staff members, professionalism, and discretion.

The Nurse would benefit from having a one day onboarding plan in addition to approximately 5 hours of asynchronous work. This plan would cover pre-program meetings, trainings and necessary administrative work to be completed before beginning to review participant medical records.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Reviewing medical forms of all participants in the Summer Humanities Institute, Stanford University Mathematics Camp, Summer @ Stanford High School, and Summer @ Stanford Middle School before the program begins, following up with any parents or guardians for clarifying information.
  • Compiling and organizing the medical binder before the start of the program; meeting with professional staff before the program to discuss any participant medical concerns.
  • Meeting with participants and their parents or guardians on Arrival Day to discuss participants’ medical needs and ensuring participants have their appropriate medications.
  • Assisting with the training of residential staff and advising staff on how to handle the various medical needs of participants, in person, by phone, and in written communication.
  • Managing medical-related phone calls and emails from parents and communicating closely with the professional staff team to keep staff informed of significant incidents.
  • Advising and training residential staff on the most current practices regarding adolescent health, and being ready to advise on any new or developing public health concerns that arise (i.e. best practices to protect against a new surge of COVID infections). Attending program field trips that take place off campus and attending program-wide campus events (i.e., Carnival, etc.)
  • Joining programs in person on Mondays and Thursdays for follow up meetings with staff, participant check-ins, and future planning.
  • Providing regular feedback about the participants’ health and wellness to the SPCS and Stanford OHS professional staff and notifying professional staff of any concerns that require intervention.
  • Fostering and promoting an inclusive environment for all participants, staff, and SPCS/Stanford OHS community members.
  • Ensuring that participants and staff adhere to all applicable policies at all times, including the Administrative Guide Memo, program policies, the SPCS Code of Conduct, and the Protection of Minors policy.

To be successful in this position, you will bring:

  • The qualification to practice in the State of California and at least a school nurse qualification, Registered Nurse (RN) or Nurse Practitioner license.
  • Experience working with children and adolescents.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish priorities, manage shifting priorities, and handle numerous time-sensitive tasks with multiple deadlines and frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally.
  • Ability to maintain calmness under pressure.
  • A strong work ethic and acumen for patiently responding to potential crises, including physical and mental health.

Compensation

The compensation for the Nurse position is between $68.00 and $78.00 per hour. Hourly pay is taxable income. This is a temporary, non-exempt position averaging 30 hours of work per week. The Nurse will be responsible for securing their own housing off campus for the duration of this position. This position can be expected to be hired from early May 2024 until mid August 2024.
