Effective Nonverbal Communication

One of the aspects of leadership is effective communication with colleagues, clients, and providers. Individual presence and self-confidence are key to being perceived as someone who can “show the way.” This course focuses on a few skills necessary to becoming an effective leader. These skills include (but are not limited to): effective nonverbal communication, the ability to deliver an impactful elevator pitch, the ability to effectively pitch an idea or a project in less than three minutes, and storytelling. In a nutshell, this course teaches students how to captivate an audience.

Each student will prepare short presentations, individually or in a group, that will be video recorded. The video recordings will be viewed, and each student will receive live feedback from the instructor and the class. Students will learn how to develop their own leadership skills as well as their ability to assess the leadership skills of others. At the end of the session, students are expected to have improved their own communication skills and be able to deliver captivating short presentations and pitches, key ingredients to effective leadership.
