Nurse

Position Overview

The Nurse supervises and oversees the health and safety of all participants while remaining current on any changing medical or public health guidance necessary to provide a safe and healthy environment. This role works directly with minors and their families and requires a high level of responsibility, self-direction, communication, collaboration with residential staff members, professionalism, and discretion.

The Nurse will participate in approximately one day of onboarding prior to the arrival of participants which include, in-person and online training and administrative work.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Review medical forms of all participants in the residential Stanford Pre-Collegiate Studies and Stanford Online High School programs before the program begins, follow up with any parents or guardians for clarifying information.
  • Comply and organize the medical binders before the start of the program; meeting with professional staff prior to the program to discuss any participants’ medical concerns.
  • Meet with participants and their parents or guardians on Arrival Day to discuss participants’ medical needs and ensure participants have the appropriate medications.
  • Assist with the training of residential staff and advise staff on how to handle various medical needs of participants, in person, by phone, and in written communication.
  • Manage medical-related phone calls and emails from parents and communicate closely with the professional staff team to keep staff informed of significant incidents.
  • Advise and train residential staff on current practices regarding adolescent health and be prepared to provide guidance  on any new or developing public health concerns that arise (e.g., advise on best practices to protect against a new surge of COVID infections).
  • Attend program field trips that take place off campus and attend program-wide campus events (i.e., Field Day, etc.), as well as joining programs in person on pre-scheduled days for follow up meetings with staff, participant check-ins, and future planning.
  • Provide regular feedback about the participants’ health and wellness to the SPCS and Stanford OHS professional staff and notify professional staff of any concerns that require intervention.
  • Foster and promote an inclusive environment for all participants, staff, and SPCS/Stanford OHS community members.
  • Ensure that participants and staff adhere to all applicable policies at all times, including the Administrative Guide Memo, program policies, the SPCS Code of Conduct, and the Protection of Minors policy.

To be successful in this position, you will bring:

  • The qualification to practice in the State of California and at least a school nurse qualification, Registered Nurse (RN) or Nurse Practitioner license.
  • Experience working with children and adolescents.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish priorities, manage shifting priorities, and handle numerous time-sensitive tasks with multiple deadlines and frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally.
  • Ability to maintain calmness under pressure.
  • A strong work ethic and acumen for patiently responding to potential crises, including physical and mental health.

Compensation

The compensation for the Nurse position is between $80.00 per hour. This is a temporary, non-exempt position up to 30 hours of work per week. Overtime is subject pursuant to state and federal wage and hour laws. The Nurse will be responsible for securing their own housing off campus for the duration of this position. This position can be expected to be hired from late April 2025 until mid August 2025.
