International Institutes Program Manager

Position Overview

Stanford Pre-Collegiate International Institutes brings together high school students from up to 20 different countries for each session. The Global Solutions project integrates the academic, residential, and multicultural aspects of the program in a “design a world” project which develops communication, critical thinking, and leadership capabilities. Students who participate in these projects learn about other cultures first-hand, and experience the challenges and rewards of building a global community. This is a full-time residential position.

Responsibilities of the Program Manager position include:

  • Academic responsibilities include coordination of the Global Solutions Project during each of the four sessions:
    • Assist with selection of students for multinational project cohorts.
    • Daily communication with instructors and program staff to track progress, prevent problems and ensure positive outcomes.
    • Provide support for Residential Counselors in their TA role, including clarification of project objectives, facilitating answers to questions, and communicating with program staff as needed.
    • Planning for evening project team meetings and events including assistance with supplies and event services orders.
  • Providing residential support to the participants in the house of residence (e.g., being on duty, chaperoning field trips and events).
  • Collaborate with program leadership on field trip coordination.
  • Fostering and promoting an inclusive environment for all participants, staff, and SPCS community members.
  • Guiding participants in educational initiatives centered around individual development, wellness, community engagement, and inclusion.


  • Undergraduate studies in International Relations or related field, strongly preferred
  • At least one year of experience as a Residential Assistant, or comparable residential leadership experience, strongly preferred
  • Previous summer camp/program experience or experience leading or managing student groups desirable
  • Comfort with supervising others, including enforcing rules, solving problems, making decisions, and mediating conflict
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to delegate
  • Enthusiasm, responsibility, and team-building skills
  • Ability to maintain calmness under pressure
  • Must attend one pre-summer meeting during spring quarter to meet the International Programs Team and begin training (approximately two hours)
  • Must be available for mandatory training June 18–June 22, 2018
  • Preferred availability is for all four sessions of the International Institutes between June 25–August 19, 2018.


The standard compensation for the Program Manager is $1,420/week plus a full room and board package. This position is exempt.

  • July 24–August 4, 2018.
